How much did you pay for your gpu?
By - anandmohandas
This is the one true answer
I feel attacked.
$0 for my 1070 Ti about a year and a half ago.
It was in a co-workers computer that got soup spilled all over it. It wouldn't start or run after that and he was going to throw the whole thing away but gave it to me to see if I could salvage anything. I took the computer completely apart and scrubbed and cleaned every little detail of every component I could. Been using the 1070 Ti since.
I love this. I also like to salvage things I can.
The other day some neighbors threw out a treadmill. I took out the electric motor. 3.5HP, might be used to build stuff.
And I got two broken iPhones by my parents and turned them into one working one.
A buddy of mine did that and put the motor in his daughter's Power Wheels buggy. She now has a throttle instead of just the on/off pedal, and it goes about twice as fast now. It would probably be even faster, but he had to put in a big-ass battery, too. But it goes about as fast as he can sprint.
No shit, I pulled a computer out of the Chattahoochee River in the late 90s (still have no fucking idea why it was in there), let it dry out, cleaned it up, put a new hdd in it, and used it for years.
Burn the hdd of any computer you find in a river :/
nah man that's good eatin'
Pshhh you think he was gonna eat it raw?
I don’t remember computers In that Alan Jackson song…
Never knew how much that muddy computer meant to me
Hey, if someone wanted to gain the knowledge to be able to do this kinda stuff. Where would I go to learn?
I thought I bricked my pc after a bios update and paid someone to check it out for me. Turns out that 2/4 ram slots were not working and he plugged my ram in to the 2 working ones. Got charged 75 bucks tho
Make:electronics is a cool starting point, I think. And then just take apart old, broken stuff. Solder stuff, use a Multimeter (the most important diagnostic tool I think. I’m really not a pro at it though )
All good if you're not a pro. You're probably more knowledgable than me so that's why I asked. Thanks.
I mean google honestly. It sounds like a dumb short answer but it's true. Get good at searching for shit and using other databases you come across and you can troubleshoot fucking anything really. Working in IT at a call center most hold time is a straight up lie while we search a database or google.
YouTube is a great place to learn
I was just playing PC Building Simulator and had a diagnose and fix mission where the customer had spilled soup in his computer. I thought "who spills soup in their computer?"
I guess I found my answer 😂
Turns out the venting on top of some desktop cases really helps to evenly distribute soup throughout the top of the case, making sure to help the soup not just hit the fan, but ALL THE FANS.
"Man, shame for it to go to waste, this old rig was really souped-up!"
This reminded me of this:
"In Yiddish a schlemiel is somebody who often spills his soup and a schlimazel is the person it lands on."
It's a schlimazel 1070 Ti!
50€ for 1050ti a couple of months ago
Dang, I spent £160 for a new 1050 ti, your one was used right?
Holy shit I've got a spare 1050ti laying around, if it goes for that I'm putting it on ebay asap
You would deffo get at least £120 for it on ebay/Facebook marketplace
Thank you for that!
Yeah I bought a used 1050Ti from a *friend* for $100. You can easily get more from a stranger.
Yeah, I bought it from a friend of mine
Yeah, I spent £170 for a new one last month as my 280 died, (rip r9 you did your job well).
is that enough for 1080p 60hz?
Yeah man I got a 1050 Ti and honestly besides on some of the newer titles (my CPU is a bottleneck so take that into account) , it does really well.
People sleep on the 1050ti so hard
I've had mine for almost 4 years and have only had the urge to upgrade once I got a 2k 144hz monitor.
Yeah it punches above weight class for sure.
I could play battlefield 4 in 1080p at 100fps on that beast and a pentium.
What’s your definition of “new titles” ?
I’m always confused on how new a game should be to be considered new.
You know, something released on the latest gen consoles like Skyrim or gtav
LOL you’re not really wrong.
I think “new titles” at the moment really just means anything with RTX ray tracing
I remember paying 150€ for a new one before the gpu shortages, where did you get that deal ?
600€ new RTX 3070
$500 new RTX3070 from BestBuy
Dang you got lucky didn't you?
Yep! Got it on 1st day of order. Never thought I would get it though and now looking back super lucky because I’d never buy one at the prices now.
Yeah. I got mine on the release day. I tought that everyone wanted the ASUS or MSI one so i went for Palit and got lucky. The ASUS and MSI ones went in a second but Palit was available for solid 2 hours :D.
I didn’t even try for any of those because they were gone so fast lol. I went with FE because I thought it would be my best bet. Lol.
How are the thermal pads on the Palit one? Any overheating issues?
My 3070 is from palit too
I spent around that much in usd on a 3060
Same, just got it from microcenter on Saturday
500€ for a used 2080Ti december last year
Damn thats nice
Yeah people was selling Turing like crazy when the news ones were about to drop.
Many of those sellers are still gaming with their integrated GPU I assume.
£750 for RTX 3080
Yeah got lucky with using a webscraper to check for stock updates. Manage to score a Gigabyte RTX 3080 off CCL for £750 with a copy of CoD Cold War (it was okay)
This was back in November
Also paid around the same for mine.
Back in September I got into the notify me queue for 3080's on EVGA's website. Those were sold for MSRP and I got mine in early November.
Fuck, I'm in the same queue but I entered in October... I haven't gotten my email yet.
Yeah, I hit the button apparently less than one day after it was live, period. That was before they even announced the queue for those who had signed up for notifications.
Good luck, my dude, and godspeed.
Same situation as you except February. It was an amazing surprise as I had no idea that the notification system put me in some que. I also got lucky having checked my email in the 6 hour window that I was unaware of when the que popped for me.
I paid £660 for my 3080 founders edition and sold my 1080ti for £385. Bargain upgrade
It's a pretty ridiculous market for reselling GPU. At the time I bought my 3080, I think I could have sold my 1080 for around £500. Which is crazy
1,500 for a 3090.
Same. Best buy ftw.
3090 Best Buy gang
I keep checking best buy, waiting. ... Waiting.
Indeed, from the Best Buy drop on Good Friday.
I got mine last May. $1800. Having never been able to play on anything but the lowest settings with my 2013 MacBook Pro for 8 years makes the 3090 so worth it.
Games I’ve played with it include Pokémon on an emulator, Diablo 2 and 3, Call of Duty. Really getting my money’s worth
I played Resident Evil 8 and RDR2 with the graphical settings cranked and was in awe. I had originally been playing old games like L4D2 on a laptop with integrated graphics, then moved to a smaller build with a 2060 (was blown away by that change), and then upgraded to a larger build with a 3090 and was blown away again.
$460 for a 1080 a week ago..
Some of these comments are depressing
Don't take it too hard, the vast majority of people commenting are motivated by bragging rights. If you paid a typical amount you're a lot less chuffed about it and it's a lot less interesting so you're less likely to comment here so it will skew cheaper.
Also we dont see the thousands of people who havent been able to upgrade at all
I just got my 1080 for $500 yesterday.
That was the cheapest price I was able to find. I'm just happy I got a gpu upgrade for under $800+.
Wow I got a used 1080ti for $500 like 3 years ago from a crypto miner and every time a thread like this comes up it is reaffirmed to me how that was one of the greatest decisions of my life.
Bought my 1080 for 800€. Preordered it. It's still a great card, I can imagine that $460 isn't too bad for what you get
I got my 1080 for $1100ish about 4 years ago
wow, you got ripped off
edit: which 1080 model is it?
It's an EVGA 1080 non TI version (bought before the TI's were released), also the price is in Canadian dollars.
Ahh Canadian okay that’s a normal price then... Great card btw
a very decent GPU even nowadays. my 1080 is dying but still performing like a champ
380€ for my rtx 2070 new🥰
nice I paid 400 as well by buying an entire gaming pc second hand then selling the PC but without the GPU
I bought it before the 3xxx series came out because I had a gut feeling, ended up then selling my old 1060 for 300€ ;D
$370 for my 2070 2 years ago.
$550 after taxes for RTX 3070. Got very lucky and managed to snag a Founder's Edition on launch day.
Me too! Man, after it jumping out of my cart three times I felt like I won the lottery when it confirmed shipping and payment. That was a crazy morning.
It was crazy for me too! My friend's first PC build was banking on me snagging the 3070. I had a 2070 Super and was happy, but my friend wanted to start his build as the GPU shortages were starting. So I told him if I snag a 3070 I would sell him my 2070 S.
We were both very happy that day, lol
I did a similar thing with my friend because I had a EVGA 2060 Super SC Ultra that I bought in July 2020 (Didn't know Ampere was coming out and my RX 590 was garbage so I bought this, also I was fairly new to the PC building community...) Said if I get one then my wife would get my old card. It was overkill for her playing Sims and basic 1080p games on, so my friend who had an ASUS 1060 traded me that card plus cash for my 2060S and he got my card for a non inflated used price and my wife has a card that works perfectly fine in her gaming PC and she's happy as a clam. Now my friend is able to do high refresh rate 1080p and ray tracing. He couldn't be more stoked.
Hell yeah, that's what it's all about. High five!
I'll raise you, $658 after tax for a 3080FE. Bestbuy *somehow* didn't exclude Nvidia products from their 10% birthday discount...I've never been so lucky.
Oooo nicely done!
Wow, that's a good deal! And you're the only person I've heard so far with the founder's edition.
I got this gpu as well for the same price on release. Founders edition. I figured it would be a good upgrade over my previous one. After I thought my luck ran out I said fuck it and tried to get an xbox series x. Got that as well. Then I thought, well, Ive come this far, and tried for a ps5. Got it as well. Now im gonna ask my gf to marry me. If she says yes, Ill move on to lottery tickets.
$220 for a 1660 super May 2020
Thats pretty good, ngl
Same for me. I was building a new Ryzen 3600 based PC, and the prices had just started climbing. Love that GPU, it's very power efficient for the performance.
900$ for 2060
U cant be serious
$810 for my 3080 almost a year ago.
Haha! I just got super lucky. If were ridiculously wealthy, I'd buy a ton and randomly send GPUs to people. It would be cool to see someone on here with a dying Gtx970 or something, and just be able to have a 3080ti show up at their door one day.
Yes mr I want your address but I won't break in and murder you.
At this point without a GPU, getting murdered is fine.
It was close to $1000 CAD for my 3080 at launch.
$160 for my GTX 1650 Super
damn i paid $150 for a PNY 1650 lmao.
oh, and $650 for a 2070 Super
i recently saw 1660 Supers on amazon for like 600 USD. 🙃
850€ for my Gigabyte Aorus Master 3070 Ti in Germany last month
Okayish price. Aorus Master is really sexy tho.
Around 70 usd for hd 7750 around 10 years ago.
I was going to say $120 for an RX 460 around 5 years ago.
Are these really selling for $300 rn?
Depending on which country you live in. In mine it is 250usd. But that is only because it has 4 gb of vram.
For example an rx 580 8gb variant goes for 500usd rn in my country 💀
The funniest part is that there’s essentially no practical performance difference between the 4GB and 8GB versions of the RX580. The basics of it is that the card simply doesn’t have enough power to make use of it. The only time the performance differences start to show up is by cranking up the settings to levels where neither version is delivering playable frame rates. If the 8GB version gets 20fps in a particular game at 4K resolution and the 4GB version gets 15fps it’s technically correct to describe the 8GB version as 33% faster in that scenario… but that doesn’t change that neither one is delivering playable frame rates.
Yeah, I was looking to get an RX 400 or 500 series a couple of weeks ago on ebay (after my R9 280 crapped out on me) and the prices are crazy. I ended up paying my friend $50 for an old GTX 770 that he didnt want anymore. (I would rather continue some low spec gaming than buy a newer graphics card in this market)
1100€ for 6900xt
$120 for an RX580 8GB in Nov. 2019
1300$ for 3070…
I paid around $1150 I think because I was sick of all of the bullshit. I was ready to build but I was waiting to get everything until I could secure a new GPU. Finally I was able to secure an order with B&H for a 3070 at around $600, so I ordered all of the other components for a fresh build. Everything else arrived but my B&H order was cancelled. So here I am with a fully built PC all but a GPU. I sit like this for about a month and said screw it and bought one from Amazon for way too much.
$275 for my rtx 2060
*what* where do you get such good deals?
That was the price for the 2060 last year. That's how (or he bought a used one, then it's a good price regarding their actual price on the used market rn)
the 2000 series were nearly worthless when the 3000 series had just come out, I even saw some 2070 super's going for \~230$.
Didn't last long, maybe 1 week before people realized the scalping issue.
$513 including tax and shipping for my 6700XT, will be here tomorrow!
$720 CAD for my 3070 on release day.
€1150 for my 6800xt back in Jan
$400 for 3060ti-FE
$500 for 3070-FE
All Best Buy. I got supremely lucky and got 2x 3070s and a 3060ti at MSRP in a 4-5 month time frame.
3 builds. 1 for me, one for my kid, and one for my wife.
Can I be your kid
I may be in my 30s but I think it would work.
1350€ for 6800xt

I got my zotac 1080ti blower for $225 in February 2020. Just praying it keeps going for awhile since I can’t afford anything better for a long time.
10.000 yen for 1050ti second hand
28.600 yen for 5600xt brand new
The 5600xt price was before it became crazy right? Otherwise I can't see how it is so cheap.
400 euro for brand new 5700 xt back in november 2019. It has its problems but still really happy with the purschase.
I’ve been fairly happy with mine, although it does get a bit hot for my liking.
260 for my gtx 1060 back in 2016 I think it was
$1400 for an ASUS Strix 3080 OC
$1000 for 6900xt shortly after launch
£500 for my 2070s
This was on the day it came out. Saw on eBay that a used one it’s going for £800! I’d never be tempted to sell my best friend though. We’re still going strong 💪
$299 for RX 5600 XT
$2600 for Asus TUF RTX 3090
250€ for a rx570 4gb
I paid that much for my 580 nearly 4 year ago .\_\_.
Strange to think about how the value of it went up over 4 years, not down... And sad too...
Man this is wild, $249 for my RX 580 in Nov 2018, they are going for like $600 at some places.
I paid £185 for my 8gb 580 2.5 yr ago.
Is 150 euros a good price for secondhand rx 570 4gb
Yes, but keep in mind, if it's too good to be true, it probably is
I agree thats why im wary lol
Saw this on Facebook Marketplace, so im making him send a stress test, any tips on what I should look out for? Any questions. I should ask him?
This is a founders edition btw, idk if it's of any importance
I'd recommend picking it up and asking him if he can show it working and do a stress test whilst you are there. Then your basically 100% sure it's working.
400€ for evga 3060 xc
1000euro for 3070
They robbed you.

In the beginning of the first bitcoin Phase 300€ for my Monster of a 1060 6gb.
