Does 'reset' mean go back to neutral re-clutch and go back for third? Sounds to me like trans/synchros are failing but that might be a bit dramatic. I wouldn't expect aftermarket shifter to solve this myself, might be a worn shift linkage?

Vast-Combination4046

I think it's more likely that the clutch isn't fully disengaged and is keeping op from being able to bang gears. It could also be a sign that the transmission is still not up to operating temp and op should try to shift more carefully when it's cold.

bellajupiter_86

temp makes sense except this happens when it's warmed up too.

ComprehensiveHold69

Are you shifting when the little light says to?

bellajupiter_86

that's exactly what i meant. i'll look into it (:

Doc7717

I would change transmission fluid first since it's cheap and easy. Also if the transmission only does it when you first start the car but stops the more you drive it, the oil is getting warm and that is not a problem.

LVCKY5

Do you know a good vid run thru of how specifically to change trans fluid on a BRZ? I saw a vlog style one but didn’t really explain much

Doc7717

It's only two bolts you have to take out. Remove the fill one (the one on top) first because if you can't get that off but you have already drained the oil you are in trouble. You then buy some oil and a pump and fill it until the oil leaks out. https://youtu.be/S5Ko93ZTLPg. This should be a good guide. A lot of the times the oil container doesn't have a funnel like the one in the video, I would get the pump anyways since holding it up like that seems like a hassle

That's bad advice right there sir

WizofWorr

Where did you come up with this shit?

de_murloc

How do you even come up with this? Your poor car

You do your own research lmao. If you're too lazy to do an hour's worth of work on your own car that's on you but don't give this advice to others.

bellajupiter_86

it feels fine & i maybe need to be more mindful moving forward.

So I’m not saying mine ever stuck or malfunctioned, but the Perrin rear shifter bushings, mtec shifter springs, and white line transmission mount made my 2013 shift sooo much better. It has a bit of whine to it in 2nd gear now and the cold starts have a lot more vibration but it’s a ton of fun to drive with these mods.

BRZMonkey

How did these mods affect the feel of performance?

UnnamedStaplesDrone

Easier to get in gear, less lurching and less slack in the drivetrain. Forgot to mention also have sti engine mounts
